BRITNEY SPEARS MAGAZINE ANALYSIS

Britney spears has been shot at the centre, they cropped out the sides so the picture focuses on her, keep in mind that the shot camera was from a high angle.  This type of magazine is a typical way of capturing the audience’s attention (mainly men), she’s lying on the bed in a provocative way to seduce the audience. Her costume is very revealing, and it’s very feminine. In a way the imagery is very over-powering and seductive, mainly appealing to the male audience, we can see she is emerging from her sexuality. Britney is holding a Teletubby stuff toy on one hand, representing her childhood, as well as her innocence. On the other hand she holds a telephone; we can tell she’s talking to her boyfriend. It sums up that she is in this phase from being a child turning into an adult. The background is red velvet. This background has been used, probably to connotate love, attraction or lust towards the male readers. There are two intertextual references being used. One is the teletubby stuff toy, which comes from children show, connotating her child-like. Additionally her uniform also tells us that she’s still a teenager, and links to her ‘Hit me baby one more time’ music video.

This picture is a long shot, they cropped the sides, to focus on her body as well as trying to seduce the audience. In this picture she’s represented more sexually and dominant, rather than the first picture. Britney’s costume is a lot more revealing, she’s almost naked, and you can see her physique. Her pose seems as if she’s trying to play or have ‘fun’ with the reader, and trying to get their attention. She poses this way so the audience can also see the curves of her body. It shows us that she wants an intimate relationship. The setting used is a white background probably trying to connotate the purity, which contradicts it because she’s almost naked. However she has the angel appearance, blonde hair, and white appearance. The lighting used is a high key to highlight her sexuality and physique. Furthermore they used the colours white and blue, these colours resemblance innocent and purity Setting used is not clear however it is possible to be a narrow alley way, suggesting that Britney is in a rush and took the shortest way possible despite its lack comfort. The lighting is very bright, this is used to make Britney stand out more and outline her body which would attract the male audience. There are no dark colours used also the clothing is white along with the background with Britney being the main focus of this image.
The close up shot used for this image along with the use of black and white colour may signify a dramatic and dreadful story of her life. This impression is evolved from Britneys facial expression and the close up shot is used to outline her emotions rather than anything else.
Also this image could have been cropped from a mid-shot  into a close up shot in order to put the emphasis on her facial expression. Furthermore this image is used to imply that Britney wants sympathy and support from the audience and this is evident from the anchorage text "Inside an American tragedy" which clearly states that something horrible occurred in Britneys young life.
